Ingredients:
- fresh pineapple
- brown sugar
- butter
- cinnamon
How to grill pineapple?
- Start by preparing the fruit: cut off the green top, remove skin and slice.
- Mix melted butter with sugar and cinnamon. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Brush each slice with butter mixture.
- Grill on hot grill or pan for 2 to 3 minutes, on each side, until golden brown.
- Serve.
How to cut pineapple for grilling?
First, cut off the green top. Next, remove skin and core (see my note below for a tool recommendation). Then, slice the pineapple into rings, then each ring in half. You can also cut it into spears or just rings. I prefer to cut it into half rings because it’s easy to flip them on the grill.
Pineapple tool: Whether you are preparing a pineapple for salad, for grilling or just to eat fresh, I highly recommend a pineapple corer and slicer tool. You can find a ton on Amazon or any major retailers. It’s super helpful and you don’t have to deal with the brown dots after cutting of the skin.
What does grilled pineapple taste like?
My first thought was: French toast! That’s because of the brown sugar and cinnamon combo. Grilled pineapple is sweet, juicy and the caramelized bits are my favorite!
Grilled Pineapple variations:
- spicy: add cayenne pepper to butter mixture
- healthier: use olive oil and honey instead of butter and brown sugar
- kebobs: cut pineapple slices into chunks and skewer, then grill
- citrus: add lime, orange, or lemon zest and juice to butter mixture, skip the cinnamon; use honey instead of brown sugar
- boozy: once grilled, drizzle rum over each slice
